Introducing Mrs Jones… she has lived in Paddington for
the majority of her life. In 2012 her husband passed away and her children had
long since moved out of home, rarely able to visit. She was left feeling
isolated and excluded from the community.
In 2025 a change occurred within the community of
Paddington which greatly affected Mrs Jones.
Paddington Central became the heart of Paddington…
There, Mrs Jones found her place within the community.

Each morning Mrs Jones walks two blocks to Paddington
Central.
As she approaches Paddington Central she has clear visual
accessibility into the building.
Organic characteristics:
natural colours & shading
Mrs Jones finds the access points to the market place
visually inviting, and can clearly locate & use them.
She enjoys the installation art and observes others who
choose to sit or touch it
She as she walks into the
market place she observes a lady in a wheelchair & a mother with a pram
able to utilise this main entrance
Mrs Jones begins to explore the Market Place
She enjoys speaking to the
local shop owners, who are able to tell her a story of the source of the food
or hand crafts they are selling
While enjoying the social interaction her shopping
experience is enhanced. She thinks of how her children had encouraged her to
try online shopping years ago. Although this was convenient it did not provide
the same physical or social experience found at Paddington Central.
As she sips on her morning coffee she walks towards the
Common Land Community Space
She sits and observes the diversity of people within the
space. Younger children are sharing the space with the older generations
Mrs Jones feels a sense of comfort and belonging in this
space. She sees the business owners benefiting from the low rental prices, and
the residents of Paddington enjoying the benefits of shopping locally.
Although in recent years she has felt isolated from
others, this place provides the opportunity to meet and interact with her
community
