MARKET PLACE LEVEL SPATIAL ARRANGEMENT

The market place is designed to create an opportunity for the community of Paddington to buy and sell locally. The new design of Paddington central is considerate to the current identity of the building and builds upon it's current foundations without completely disregarding them. It provides a sustainable design solution by utilising the existing structure where possible. By doing the shop rental prices and marketplace stall rental prices are able to remain low to encourage small local business owners to trade within the site.

The market place portrays a strong sense of community and offers one-on-one physical interaction with the local community (an experience lost with online shopping).

This space acts as a common land/ community space. It contains the installation design feature located in variations throughout the site. It provides social cues and opportunities for interaction. The spacial use is suggestive, but allows room for interpretation by individuals. It provides a space to meet and interact within the shared environment of the marketplace. All demographics are exposed to each other within this space. The elderly are in the same proximity of the younger generations etc. The space could also have planned community functions, such as yoga classes or community chess sessions etc.
