Focus of Design: To achieve a sustainable design solution and builds on strengthening the current community of Paddington central by providing opportunities for social interation

design alternative to the potential for online shopping to replace the
‘physical store’

sustainable design solution that improves on the existing design that works
with the existing structure and doesn’t replace it
Maintain
current stores located on the site (The current shop program works well), and aim to not increase store space rental
prices by making drastic structural changes
Incorporate
some ‘common land’ for social interaction and cross-demographic exposure
Support local
businesses; provide a spatial opportunity for many individuals to buy and sell
locally and not from a single chain store (Woolworths)
Relax the
separation of pedestrian and vehicle pathways. Create open space shared zones.
Lower Ground Floor
Plan
Replace
Woolworths with an open market space. This will support the local community and
encourage social interaction that is lost through online shopping.
Design market stall fit outs the unifies the shops, but allows oppurtunities for users to create individuality

‘common land’ open space with suggestive design spaces to allow for individuals
to interact or be in the presence of others. This allows exposure of different
demographics to each other (eg: Elderly people exposed to young children
playing)
Relax the
separation of pedestrians and vehicles. Create shared zones “activities occur
where cars and pedestrians meet”- A Pattern Language
Latrobe Terrace Level
Floor Plan
Provide a new
access opportunity from Latrobe Terrace to the new proposed market place
Provide
natural lighting opportunities and visual accessibility between the floors
Alter the
current circulation patterns into the site
