The plans display
a red section that enables the viewer to orientate themselves within the site
when observing the perspectives below.
The Latrobe
Terrace street front has been redesigned to open up access to the site. The
access to the level below is to be both visual and physical. It is designed to
be clearly identified as an inviting entrance point from the street.
Connection to the market place has been achieved at each
corner of the site along Latrobe Terrace. The openings in the slab also act as
an opportunity for natural light to flow through.
Within the Latrobe Terrace floor plan a series of opening
have been designed to allow for natural lighting to the level below, and be a
source of interest for users. Individuals visiting the shops in this area of
the site are invited to view the activities from above, which may draw them to
the market place below.
The design draws inspiration from the character of
Paddington today. As a suburb it has a unique identity. The materials, colours
and finishes are meant to reflect this character. I have maintained a sense of
warmth, and feelings of organic and nature. The design aims to create a feeling
of homeliness and comfort.
Installations are placed at different points within the
site. They provide a sense of artistic presence, draw attention to the site,
and have functional design aspects (such as suggestive seating and natural shading).
